Field Notes #2
Errors in fulfillment are generally not random.
Orders of the same type cause the same problems.
We encounter them again and again in the field 5 order types there.
The problem is not with the order; how we manage it.
1️⃣ One Order, Multiple Channels
One order only.
But the sources are different:
- Website
- Marketplace
- Campaign integration
If the same order is entered into the system with different rules, errors are inevitable.
📌 The real problem: The channel logic is not being unified.
2️⃣ Promotional + Non-Promotional Products in the Same Cart
Discounted items, promotional items, regular items…
All in one package.
If the system is unclear during the collection process:
- Wrong product
- Wrong price
- Wrong package
📌 The real problem: The campaign rules were not "translated" into the warehouse.
3️⃣ Last Minute Address Updates for Orders
The address changes at 15:40.
The order has already been added to the picking list.
These orders are either:
- It goes to the wrong address.
- Or it slows down the entire line.
📌 The real problem: Lack of clarity regarding operational cut-off times.
4️⃣ One Product, But in Different Locations
The order seems simple.
But the product is on different shelves or in different warehouses.
The harvesting time will increase.
The probability of error increases.
📌 The real problem: The inventory layout is not designed according to order logic.
5️⃣ Every Order Labeled “Urgent”
Not every order can be urgent.
But if it appears that way within the system, then nothing is truly a priority.
This situation:
- Stress in the team
- Fast but faulty packaging.
- It creates a chain reaction of problems.
📌 The real problem: Misdefinition of the concept of priority.
A Reality from the Field
"Most erroneous orders stem from assumptions, not from the system."
Good fulfillment:
- He doesn't blame the order.
- He questions the process.
