Unified Commerce vs. Omnichannel: A Comparison
Betül Gümüş — General Manager · 2025-09-11
What exactly is the "Unified Commerce" concept that's become so common lately, and how does it differ from omnichannel? Both refer to a multi-channel sales experience, but there's an important difference between them.
The Difference Between Omnichannel and Unified Commerce
Omnichannel is a model in which different sales channels (store, website, marketplace) are connected to each other but managed through separate systems. Unified Commerce is a more advanced model in which all of these channels are managed through a single central system, with a single set of stock and customer data.
The Advantage and Challenge of Unified Commerce
The advantage of Unified Commerce is that stock and customer data stay consistent across every channel — which both reduces operational errors and improves the customer experience. However, moving to this model requires a more fundamental transformation of the technology infrastructure.
